ABOUT THE PROJECT

Kachchh is famous for its vibrant shawls, which are adorned with motifs that have been passed down from generations. The shawls were originally made from desi wool which was found locally and were traditionally worn as odhanis or wraps. Via Craft Research Documentation these crafts are studied in-depth and due to this research, the current state of craft is highlighted which also helps in promoting the craft sector of the country.

'Oon ni Varta' (Story of the wool) is a detailed craft study on the Shawls of Varnora Mota. This document transports the reader to the lanes of Varnora Mota, into the weaver's houses to tell the story of this heritage craft.

Collaborators: Avani Paranjpe, Ipssa Saklani, Khushi Rathod, Lovish Goyal, Meghna Khatri and Shalini Parte of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gandhinagar.
